Herdenkingsmonument WOII
Friesland Netherlands
CIG collaborated with Dutch artist Hans Rikken and the May 4 and 5 Committee in Joure to realise a new memorial in Herema State Park, unveiled for the Netherlands' National Remembrance Day. The sculpture provides a permanent place for reflection, honouring themes of remembrance, freedom, peace, and solidarity.
The artwork features two rising aluminium spirals with birds emerging from their peaks, symbolising freedom, diversity, and hope. Based on Rikken's original design, CIG engineered and fabricated the sculpture, transforming the artist's vision into a durable public artwork. The aluminium surface was hand-finished by Rikken using his signature "moon dancing" technique, creating a dynamic finish that shifts with changing light.
