Memory

Memory is a site-specific sculpture by Anish Kapoor, created for presentations at the Guggenheim museums in Berlin and New York, ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) in Sydney.

Measuring more than 14 meters in length, the monumental Corten steel structure was conceived so that it could never be viewed in its entirety from a single position. Instead, visitors encounter different parts of the work as they move through the surrounding space, gradually constructing an understanding of its complete form in their minds. Kapoor described this experience as creating a “mental sculpture.”

The scale, form, and materiality of Memory required extensive engineering and specialist steel fabrication. CIG was responsible for the engineering, material procurement, production, welding, and on-site installation of the sculpture, translating Kapoor’s concept into the finished Corten steel structure.
