Station Münchner Freiheit

Münchner Freiheit is a distinctive tram and bus station in Munich’s Schwabing district, designed by OX2 Architekten. The station is characterized by its sweeping, softly curved canopy, creating a light and continuous structure above the public transport area.

The roof is supported by 18 slender, goblet-shaped columns that gradually expand and merge into the canopy above. Integrated green illumination emphasizes the organic character of the columns after dark, giving the structure a distinctive appearance that complements the surrounding greenery along Leopoldstraße.

CIG contributed its specialist 3D forming expertise to the realization of the station. All steel plates used to create the curved surfaces were formed by CIG to achieve the shapes required by the architectural design. Following forming, the components were supplied for welding and further assembly by a local company in Germany.
