Planten Paleis Meise

Meise Botanic Garden is one of the largest botanical gardens in the world, covering 92 hectares and bringing together an extensive collection of plant species. At its heart is the Plant Palace, one of Europe’s largest publicly accessible greenhouse complexes. As part of the renovation of the complex and its surroundings, the entrance was reconfigured to create a stronger connection between the greenhouses and the surrounding park.

The renewed entrance includes a reflecting pond and a canopy that provides a sheltered meeting space while framing views across the botanical gardens. The intervention introduces contemporary architectural elements while respecting the historic character of the Plant Palace and its landscape.

CIG contributed to the realization of the project through the production of substantial steel components for the Plant Palace. For the project, CIG processed seven large 20 mm thick steel plates, including four plates measuring 10 by 2.5 meters and three measuring 10 by 3 meters. The steel was prepared and processed at CIG’s facility in Groningen specifically for use in the Meise Plant Palace project.
