Qasr Al Hokm Metro Station
Riyadh Saudi Arabia
The Qasr Al Hokm Metro Station is a key hub in the city’s new metro network, designed to ease congestion, improve air quality, and support Riyadh’s urban transformation. A polished stainless-steel canopy connects the plaza with the station below, bringing in natural light and shade, in a competition-winning concept by Snøhetta in collaboration with One Works and Crew.
CIG was involved from an early stage, helping define the approach for creating a seamless stainless steel skin, including studies into feasible fabrication and installation methods in close collaboration with local companies in Saudi Arabia. The skin plates were pre-ground, cut, and 3D cold-formed at our factory in the Netherlands before being shipped to UAP | Armetal in Riyadh. CIG also engineered the internal support structure and provided Armetal with the required production data for local fabrication and accurate assembly.
Final polishing was carried out in Saudi Arabia by UAP | Armetal, supported by CIG on site to meet the required surface quality. In total, the project comprised more than 15,000 individual parts for the internal construction and 330 unique, 3D cold-formed, pre-ground skin plates, resulting in a highly refined and continuous architectural envelope.
