Infoversum Artwork

Created by Ronald A. Westerhuis for the Infoversum in Groningen, now known as DOT, this sculpture was designed as a smaller-scale interpretation of the building itself. Its curved Corten steel base reflects the character of DOT’s weathering steel exterior, while a polished stainless steel sphere references the building’s distinctive white dome.

The sculpture combines two contrasting materials, bringing together the naturally evolving surface of weathering steel with the highly reflective finish of stainless steel. The sphere measures approximately one meter in diameter and is positioned above the curved base, creating a composition that changes in appearance with its surroundings.

CIG was responsible for helping realize the artwork from material procurement and work preparation through production and finishing. Our scope included production of the stainless steel sphere and Corten steel base, preparation and finishing of the individual components, transport to the Infoversum, positioning of the sculpture, and final on-site finishing.
