Created for Noorderpoort College in Groningen, this large-scale sculptural artwork is defined by its continuous curved form and perforated aluminum surface. Constructed from curved aluminum plates and ribs wrapped around an aluminum tube framework, the structure combines complex shaping with a lightweight appearance.

Net Puffed Star is part of Frank Stella’s extensive series of star sculptures, in which he explored the expressive potential of form, color, and geometry. Drawing inspiration from the abstracted geometry of star shapes, these works combine bold structural frameworks with a sense of movement and spatial complexity. The sculptures challenge conventional boundaries between painting and sculpture, unfolding dynamically as viewers move around them.

CIG was involved from the earliest stages of the Università Monte Sant’Angelo Metro Station, working closely with artist Anish Kapoor and architect Amanda Levete. From concept development onward, we took responsibility for the engineering of the sculptural corten steel elements, translating complex geometries into buildable components while preserving the intended spatial and material expression. These corten steel elements form one of the station’s two sculptural entrances.

Het Andere Monument by Karel Buskes was unveiled in Groningen on May 28, 2019, as a monument addressing the negative consequences of gas extraction in the region. Standing eight meters tall and shaped as a cracked brick, the sculpture symbolizes both the physical damage caused by gas-related earthquakes and the broader social impact on the people affected by them.
